For the Children
By Kelly Abdulnour
A tiny finger curls
Around a dangling hair ring
“Look mommy! I want that thing.”
There goes a dollar to the striped balloon man
For my little Susie darling, I wrap it around her hand.
Off we go to the carnival,
Where her face sparkles with joy
But at the end of the day she still has her favorite toy.
She holds that white balloon tight
Like a lost puppy to its mum after a bad fright
For neither of them are hurting or contrite
Because what they both cherish most
Is the simple things in life
But its time she learns the better things,
New things to see and touch
Going to Daycare, riding her first bike, wanting to share and such.
“It’s time to go to bed” I say
And promptly take her friend,
And watch it gently float away.
Jealous Love
By EnjonaĆ Jenkins
You were mine,
You belonged to me.
But then… it was gone.
What we had, was it fake?
The way you held me, was it phony?
Were these your intentions all along
To love me then leave me?
Sounds like another sad love song.
I knew you were using me,
I didn’t care.
You hurt me and abused me,
But I still needed you there.
Since you left me for someone new
When I see you my heart aches.
So I thought I’d try again.
Nobody can take your place,
But at least I found one to try.
I might laugh and play when around them
But in my heart, I pray for you and I.
So now it’s undeniable,
I’m officially missing you.
And jealousy is on the rise.
And I cry…
The Heart
By Jose Portalatin
I was eight, she was ten.
I could not explain
the feeling that was boiling
in the pit of my stomach.
Every time I gazed upon
her eyes, the way they glow,
as if Medusa, herself froze me in place.
The way her light blue eyes
shinned in the sun.
As if that was giving me my strength,
to go on and keep on living.
Every time I saw a glaze of gold,
I know it was her hair.
The way it blew in the wind,
the way it shinned,
making me believe,
that peace had finally found me.
It is the best thing she has
That the angels themselves,
who are God’s right hand men
can not take away from her.
Not even
The father of sins
can take this away from her.
She can not even get rid of this:
It is my love to her.
My Love 4 You
By J. Lawrence
You make me wanna change the world
so that it doesn’t hurt you anymore…
and regardless if I love you,
hate you,
wish you would die,
or
know that I would die without you…
It doesn’t matter…
because for once in my life,
whatever you are to the world or are going to be
you are everything to me.
When we look into each other’s eyes,
traveling to the depths of each other’s souls
we say a million things without the trace of a sound.
I know that my own life is inevitable,
consumed,
within the rhythmic beatings of your very heart.
I love you for so many millions of reasons that
no paper could ever do it justice.
My love for you is deeper than anything I know.
It is a thing not of the mind but of the heart.
A feeling only felt.
Spring
By Jessa Kearns
When the sun fills the air
With warmth
And blossoms turn into
Smiling flowers-
That’s when Mother Nature
Reveals that springtime
Is here.
After a long cold winter,
When everything is dead,
Rebirth wakes up
And gives everything life.
Animals wake
From their season long sleep,
Trees turn green with happiness – because
They are happy to
See spring, at last!
The Last Hope
By Charles Moseley
I’m bleeding,
drowning,
My surrounding
is too conflicting,
Too horrible,
Too unbearable.
But I must live on
to breathe,
To hope,
To move on.
For this is the past
Past life,
Past death;
There is hope
There is breath
Of life,
And of death.
I stand
Hoping and wishing,
Trusting and thinking,
Of you
Only you
Forever,
And for always.
The Strongest Bond
By Kaitlin Ann Nadeau
Between enemies and friends,
There’s a very special bond.
It’s not something you can see,
Nor something you can touch;
But somehow you know it’s there.
This bond has special powers;
It hurts us when we’re sad,
And helps us when we’re glad.
We feel it everyday,
Whether we’re together or alone.
From the past to the present,
And into the future,
The bond has guided us through time.
You can see it in the strongest of enemies,
And in the weakest of friends,
The bond is the strongest of all bonds,
Because this bond is LOVE!
The Unyielding Forgotten
By Daniel Applewhite
Unforgiving and relentless like stone,
Wearing away the seemingly small feats of man
Sooner or later all shall give way
Those who stand in its path, obliterated,
As if paper in a fire’s flame;
Controlled from above, a wonder not conquered by man
Movies made, theories rejected and the secret not yet found.
Like a ninja’s shadow, sweeping by without a sound.
Tempers boil and flourish over this natural wonder
Overseeing man’s destruction throughout the years
Battles for power, greed, and one’s self
seemingly inevitable in man’s rule.
Not working together for the common good;
But instead, playing each other like fools.
Blood once spilling from “heroes” now forgotten,
Remnants of past warriors swept into the sunset
Crimson red, mimicking the lives once lost.
The years wiping away sadness, lives, and happy memories
Etched in parchment, cared for and copied
Writing escapes the two ravages of the earth
In poetry, narratives, ballads, and epics
Some memories are preserved
There are those that are lost
There are few things that can avoid war and time themselves
There are fewer that can escape
There are none who can do so completely
Time and war working together
One inevitable the other unmanageable
Nothing alters time’s infinite flow
War causes agony and sadness; and time just seems to slow.
True Love or Phantom?
By Kelly Knight
Are you there?
Sure, I see your sly smile,
Your brown eyes shining bright
You act witty and charming
But, is this truly you?
See, you could be the man of my dreams
All that I’ve ever needed.
Or you could be the phantom of my nightmares
The one who wears a mask and hides away
The true being inside.
Compliments pour out of your mouth,
Smooth, like butter.
You make me feel like a million bucks
But do you really mean what you say?
Or am I just another girl
Who will be lured into your trap
And be used and kissed
Then tossed out forever.
Could I really be the one for you?
Will you really treat me like a princess?
Will I get warm hugs,
Heart shaped boxes of chocolates,
And bouquets of flowers?
All small reminders that you love me.
Or will I be ignored and mistreated
Given nothing and be expected
To love regardless of your cruelty?
So boy, tell me now,
Is this you, my one true love, standing here,
Or are you some masked hidden monster that I should fear?
Untitled
By Tia Lane
I’d recognize you anywhere,
Always letting me know you cared.
You were always there for me
So it’s hard to forget you, you see.
I miss the times we shared,
Doing anything and everything we dared.
We were meant to be friends from the start,
Never wanting to be apart.
You were the one person I knew I could count on,
We’d laugh and play all day long,
Even when we had one of our stupid fights
Your smile would let me know everything was all right.
But now you’re away,
What more can I say?
Then your face pops in my head,
And instantly I remember everything you said.
I miss you a whole lot
But thanks for the life lessons you taught.
But even when I cry and it’s hard to go on,
I think of the many memories you left and that makes me strong.
What Is Friendship To You?
By Brittany Nathan
What is Friendship to you?
Is it a plant to sit and watch grow?
Or is it like an old, sunken ship so very low?
Is Friendship like candy, so sweet?
Or is it bitter like rotten beets?
Is it something you can share?
Or is it something you just can’t bear?
Is Friendship to you something from the heavens above?
Or is it something you just don’t love?
What is Friendship to you?
To me it’s everything in the world.
