I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!

II. Review all Unit Lesson notes (i.e. Vocabulary Development and Comprehension, Literary Analysis Writing, Non-Fiction Analysis, Poetry Analysis, Prose Fiction Analysis, and Annotation Process); informal (or formal) assessments will be conducted daily.

IV. Memorize your Recitation Project poem. KNOW THE POEM!

V. Read and analyze (using the TP-CASTT Method and Hermeneutic Circle of Analysis) the poem "Morning Song" (Plath). PLEASE analyze EVERY word in EVERY verse; look at the literal and figurative (e.g. symbolic, ironic, metaphoric) meaning of the words in each verse.

VI. Review the Poetry as Life: Introduction to Poetry Analysis and Appreciation notes; prepare for informal assessments (short quizzes, cold text analysis, mini-responses). Review the poetry terms (blue sheet) and prepare for assessment.

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) You should review the following items:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
-suffix endings and roots
-context clue types

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.
