TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS*
*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.
I. Complete the active reading and annotating of "from All God's Children Need Traveling Shoes" (Angelou); annotate the text and apply the SOAPSTone Method, Modes of Development, and Rhetorical Terms to your analysis (use all three levels). Complete a Reflection Summary on a sheet of paper...attach the paper to the back of the text. Please consult the rubric for this assignment. DUE 10/10/13 (50 points)
II. Read and annotate “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” (Skloot); if you have a digital copy of the text I strongly urge you to make annotation notes on a sheet of paper. You will be thankful for these notes when it is time to build your 250 point Group Analysis Project. DUE ASAP

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.
I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (Lists 1 and 2) You should review the following items:
*word definitions
*part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
*related forms (family words)
*synonyms and antonyms
*notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
*suffix endings and roots
*context clue types
In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.
To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.
II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.
III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.
IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.
VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.
