I. Read "Sweet Sixteen and Spoiled Rotten" (Cox); annotate the text using your previous experience. If you have no experience, please do what you can. Read the directions on the assignment sheet. Also, apply the SOAPSTone Method to your analysis. (DUE 9/12/13)
II. Visit www.schoology.com to view the Quote of the Day; you must post a response to the quote and read and respond to at least two other posts. (DUE 9/12/13)
III. Obtain a copy of “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” (Skloot); you may buy, borrow, or download a copy of the text. Begin reading pages xiii-86. (DUE 9/16/13)

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.
I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (List 1) You should review the following items:
-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
-suffix endings and roots
-context clue types
In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.
To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.
II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.
III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.
IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.
VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.
