HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (AS OF 3/26/07 [A], 3/27/07 [B])

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doning whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

1. Study SAT Vocabulary Terms (LISTS 5, 6, and 7). You should review the following:

a. word definitions
b. part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
c. related forms (family words)
d. synonyms and antonyms notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [EV1]

2. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the elements of POETRY (and prose fiction). Students will be expected to adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms. STANDARD [ER2]

3. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the elements of grammar. Students will be expected to adequate mastery and knowledge of all elements.

4. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

5. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to have adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

6. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to have adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

7. WORK ON YOUR ORAL ASSIGNMENT PROJECTS...DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. YOU HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO COMPLETE THEM.

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Get back in work mode...the beginning of the end (i.e. the 4th Quarter) is HERE!!!

II. Work on your SAT Vocabulary List 7 Extended Definitions. DUE 3/30 [A], 4/2 [B]

III. Prepare for your Oral Recitation Project #2-Poetry Recitations. STUDY YOUR POEM!!!

IV. Make last minute additions or changes to your notebooks. 4th Quarter Notebook Check on 3/30 [A], 4/2 [B].

V. Finish the 4th Quarter Goals Objective Summary Assignment. Use the following guide information:

WARM-UP ASSIGNMENT: Personal Goals Objective Summary (4th Qtr)
Pre-AP English I/KNIGHT

MATERIALS: Notebook paper (DO NOT WRITE IN JOURNAL), pencil, and dictionary.

OBJECTIVE: Students should be able to successfully create a well written, well organized, and well edited paper.

STANDARDS: JW1, 2, 3 TIME: 15 minutes

TASK: Using a blank sheet of paper you will write a detailed Personal Goals Objective Summary for the 4th Quarter. The summary must be no less than 150 words (you may exceed this if you wish…the typed copy will be ONE FULL PAGE). Please write legibly (USE PENCIL). You will have only 15 minutes to complete.

WRITING RULES: Your summary MUST discuss/include the following:

1. Discussion of your academic strengths and weaknesses in the 3rd Quarter and how you intend to improve/maintain them.
2. Achievable goals, as well as some evidence of a plan that you will use in order to accomplish them.
3. Show genuine, sincere evidence of your attempt to achieve an academic goal.

FOLLOW-UP HOMEWORK: Type your detailed Personal Goals Objective Summary for the 4th Quarter. The summary must be no less than ONE FULL PAGE (you may exceed this if you wish). Please use 12 point Times New Roman font and double space. Follow the above stated writing rules.

After typing the summary, please have your parents/guardians read, sign and date the summary before you return to class.

FOLLOW-UP HOMEWORK DUE DATE: 3/28/07 [A] or 3/29/07 [B] (25 POINTS)
