4th QUARTER SYLLABUS (AS OF 3/26/07)

Students, as we embark on the final 9 weeks of Pre-AP English Honors I, I felt it necessary to share this infomation with you. Please note that the following information is subject to change.

I. POETRY (CONTINUED FROM THE 3RD QUARTER)

LENGTH OF STUDY: 2 Weeks

START DATE: 3/26 [A], 3/27 [B]
STOP DATE: 4/12 [A], 4/13 [B]

Types of Assignments

Students can expect the following types of assignments to be assigned in conjunction with their study of poetry. These assignments will either be completed as homework or in class. Here is a short list:

1. Self-study charts
2. Explications
3. Group study assignments
4. Response to literature writing assignments
5. Oral poetry recitation project
6. Genre based creative writing assignments
7. Major writing assignment

Evaluation

This is a tentative list of the types of evaluations that will be used to assess student knowledge:

1. In-class assignments (Points TBD)
2. Quizzes (Points TBD)
3. Unit test (Points TBD)
4. Explications (100 points each)
5. Self-study charts (50 points each)
6. Response to literature writing assignments (50 points each)
7. Genre based creative writing assignments (Points TBD)
8. Major writing assignment (100 points)

II. SAT VOCABULARY LISTS 7 and 8

LENGTH OF STUDY: 6 WEEKS
START DATE: 3/14 [A], 3/15 [B]
STOP DATE: 4/30 [A], 5/1 [B]

*Study of SAT Vocabulary will take place along with other scheduled unit material. Our study of the vocabulary for Lists 7 and 8 will not be consolidated...study time should be approximately 3 weeks per list.

Types of Assignments

Students can expect the following types of assignments to be assigned in conjunction with their study of SAT Vocabulary. These assignments will either be completed as homework or in class. Here is a short list:

1. Extended definitions assignment
2. In-class graded activities

Evaluation

This is a tentative list of the types of evaluations that will be used to assess student knowledge:

1. Extended definitions assignment (40 points per vocabulary list)
2. In-class graded activities (Points TBD)
3. Unit test (Points TBD)

III. ESSAY WRITING

LENGTH OF STUDY: 3 WEEKS

START DATE: 4/10 [A], 4/11 [B]
STOP DATE: 4/24 [A], 4/25 [B]

*Essay writing will take place along with other scheduled unit material.

Types of Assignments

Students can expect the following types of assignments to be assigned in conjunction with the planning, writing, revising, and publication of their essay. These assignments will either be completed as homework or in class. Here is a short list:

1. Planning
2. Writing of Draft #1
3. Take home peer editing assignment
4. Revision of Draft #1
5. Writing of Draft #2
6. Publication/submission of Final Draft

Evaluation

This is a tentative list of the types of evaluations that will be used to assess student knowledge:

1. Planning (25 points)
2. Draft #1 (25 points)
3. Take home peer editing assignment (25 points)
4. Draft #2 (25 points)
5. Final Draft (100 points)

IV. DRAMA

LENGTH OF STUDY: 5 Weeks
