BULLETIN: Non-Fiction Unit Goals Objectives and Rationale (PLEASE READ!!!!!!)

Students,

Please copy this information onto the notes that you were taking in class. I will be looking for this information.

GOALS OBJECTIVE:

After discussing this unit students should know the following:

1. The functions of the modes of development
2. How to identify a mode of development in a work of non-fiction
3. The functions of the rhetorical devices and terms
4. How to identify rhetorical devices and terms in a work of non-fiction
5. How to interpret and analyze a work of non-fiction
6. How to write an effective annotation of a work of non-fiction
7. The parts of the SOAPStone model
8. How to use SOAPStone in the reading and analysis of works of non-fiction
9. Get an introduction to nonfiction texts and identify what they already know about this genre
10. Prepare to read a nonfiction article by building background knowledge and learning key vocabulary
11. Learn text features associated with types of nonfiction
12. Learn about different text structures used in nonfiction and identify the text structure of a specific passage

RATIONALE:

Students need to understand the principles and concepts involved in reading and analyzing AP Language and non-fiction works as a foundation for future writing and discussion.
