HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (5/12/14)

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Read through and annotate Romeo and Juliet...it is okay to read ahead. Prepare to continue reading the play next class meeting.

II. Work on assigned Romeo and Juliet Analysis Questions. The list of tonight’s assigned questions will be published to Schoology (Master Class). 

Please start working on the questions now…waiting until the last minute could be put you in jeopardy of not being able to complete them on time. PLEASE follow the writing rules for this assignment. 

Respond to and type the following discussion questions: #8, 9, 11, 13 (Act One, Scene 1)

III. Complete the Schoology Discussion for Romeo and Juliet Topic #1. Read the assigned Essential Question, type it on your computer (use your favorite word processing program), proofread it, then upload it to the discussion board. This is DUE NOW!. 

After the EQ Responses have been posted, you will read them and engage in a discussion with your peers. You must read your classmate's response to the EQ, then ask questions, or make comments. You must have a virtual conversation with them. You must respond to no less than 10 responses on the board. This is DUE 5/16/14 @ 8:00 AM.

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (Lists 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) You should review the following items:

*word definitions
*part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
*related forms (family words)
*synonyms and antonyms
*notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
*suffix endings and roots
*context clue types

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Analysis Essay for Recitation Project


DIRECTIONS: As a part of your Recitation Project you will analyze an approved poem and then plan, write, edit, and publish a well-written analysis paper using skills and concepts introduced this year. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Your analysis paper will demonstrate the following: 

1. Your ability to analyze a poem using the TP-CASTT Method, DIDLS, and the Hermeneutic Circle of Analysis.

2. Your ability to extract a focused analysis question from your analysis of the poem.
