HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (4/28/14)

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Conduct research for your paper. Only use scholarly sources...NO WIKIPEDIA! Try Google Scholar. Continue looking for references to be used in your paper as concrete details. Look up credible writings on poetry, poetry analysis, specific aspects of poetry, the poet’s style, etc.

II. Revise and edit the first half of your paper based on the peer review notes. Make changes to your paper based on those notes. After you have revise and expanded the first half of your paper, begin writing the second half of your paper. The revised first 50% and the second 50% is DUE 5/2/14 (ICC/TIINC)

III. Review the notes your took on Shakespeare and access the study guides in the Master Class. Continue studying the poetry terms too.

V. Read the section of the poetry unit terms sheet on sonnets. DUE 4/30/14

VI. Review Ender's Game; test is 4/30/14

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (Lists 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7) You should review the following items:

*word definitions
*part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
*related forms (family words)
*synonyms and antonyms
*notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
*suffix endings and roots
*context clue types

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Analysis Essay for Recitation Project


DIRECTIONS: As a part of your Recitation Project you will analyze an approved poem and then plan, write, edit, and publish a well-written analysis paper using skills and concepts introduced this year. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Your analysis paper will demonstrate the following: 

1. Your ability to analyze a poem using the TP-CASTT Method, DIDLS, and the Hermeneutic Circle of Analysis.

2. Your ability to extract a focused analysis question from your analysis of the poem. 

3. Your ability to plan, write, edit, and publish a well written analysis paper.

4. Your ability to use critical thinking skills, higher level interpretation skills, and higher level reading comprehension and inferencing skills.
