HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (3/25/14)

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Obtain a copy of Ender's Game (Card); read and annotate the text at your own pace. If you have a digital copy of the text I strongly urge you to make annotation notes on sheets of paper. This text is a part of our science fiction study. There will be a reading and analysis test later. Chapters 13-end DUE 3/27/14

II. 
If your poem has been approved you need to begin analyzing the poem. Use the introduced annotation technique and the TP-CASTT Method to analyze your poem. The annotated poem is DUE 3/27/14 (50 points)

III. If your recitation poem was rejected (or if you did not submit one) you need to submit one ASAP, or I will select one for you.

IV. Review the Poetry Unit Guide and the Unit Lesson notes. Prepare for informal assessments (e.g. quizzes, discussions, writing assignments)

V. Complete the assigned sections on www.fcatexplorer.com; use the login information that was given to you during class. This assignment must be complete with the HIGHEST DEGREE of integrity. You will receive a grade for the completion of your work and the accuracy of your skills.

Section “B.C. to A.D.” is DUE 3/25/14
Section “A.D. to 1500” is DUE 3/31/14
Section “1500 to 1800” is DUE 4/8/14

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (Lists 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) You should review the following items:

*word definitions
*part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
*related forms (family words)
*synonyms and antonyms
*notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
*suffix endings and roots
*context clue types

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

WRITING ASSIGNMENT: Analysis Essay for Recitation Project


DIRECTIONS: As a part of your Recitation Project you will analyze an approved poem and then plan, write, edit, and publish a well-written analysis paper using skills and concepts introduced this year. 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Your analysis paper will demonstrate the following: 

1. Your ability to analyze a poem using the TP-CASTT Method, DIDLS, and the Hermeneutic Circle of Analysis.

2. Your ability to extract a focused analysis question from your analysis of the poem. 

3. Your ability to plan, write, edit, and publish a well written analysis paper.

4. Your ability to use critical thinking skills, higher level interpretation skills, and higher level reading comprehension and inferencing skills.
