I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!
II. Review all Unit Lesson notes (i.e. Vocabulary Development and Comprehension, Literary Analysis Writing, Non-Fiction Analysis, Poetry Analysis, Prose Fiction Analysis, and Annotation Process); informal (or formal) assessments will be conducted daily.

IV. If you are in the Poetry Recitation Project Tournament, you should review your poem. You will be reciting the same piece that you recited in the graded recitation phase of the project, so there is an expectation that you grow as a reciter.
V. Read Romeo and Juliet (Act 2, Scenes 4-6); annotate the text using poetic and prose analysis techniques. While reading and analyzing the scenes, answer the discussion questions using the format guide sheet requirements. You will not be asked to submit the work, but you will be expected to discuss it...don't wait until the last minute. Prepare to read and discuss the text in our next class session. DAILY ASSIGNMENTS
*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.
I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) You should review the following items:
-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.
-suffix endings and roots
-context clue types
In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.
To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.
II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.
III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.
IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)
V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

2. It will mostly measure your knowledge of the following concepts:

c. Main Idea (Author Purpose) Identification
d. Ability to make inferences
e. Word Parts
f. Grammar identification and correction
3. This is an IMPORTANT assessment; you are expected to try and do your best.
End of Course Exam (English)

Details:

Spring District Timed Writing
5/14/13 (during Period 1)
Details:
1. The essay will either be expository or persuasive
2. THIS ESSAY WILL AFFECT YOUR ACADEMIC STANDING!
3. The writing session will be timed.
4. The 9th grade Spring District Timed Writing Assessment will be administered during 1st period, May 14, 2013.
5. Normal FCAT 2.0 Writing procedures for administration will be followed, which will allow students 60 minutes of testing time.
6. The scores derived from this assessment will be used for placement into a course similar to Intensive Reading for the 2013-2014 school year.
7. You MUST do well to avoid losing your elective class.
