TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS*

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!
 


II. Read and review the Course Curriculum paper and Course Orientation and Policies Guide; obtain a parent signature on BOTH documents. Each is worth 25 points. DUE 8/22 [A], 8/23 [B]

III. Obtain (buy or borrow) a copy of Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer; read Chapters 1-7. DUE 9/4 [A], 9/5 [B]

IV. Register with www.turnitin.com; use the provided registration information. DUE 8/28 [A], 8/29 [B]

V. Review the summer reading text To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee); a graded discussion and test will take place next week (see UPCOMING DATES)

VI. Plan and type your Diagnostic Essay (Transitioning to High School); use the guide sheet and upload it to www.turnitin.com DUE 8/28 [A], 8/29 [B]

VII. Complete your SAT Vocabulary List 1 Quick Review Assignment. DUE 8/22 [A], 8/23 [B]

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1) You should review the following items:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.
