HOMEWORK (1/27 [A], 1/30 [B])

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS* 

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.
 

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog). AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!
 

II. Review the notes taken during the Unit Lesson (Non-Fiction and Discovering Prose Fiction); review terms, concepts, and other information. Please prepare for daily informal assessments.


III. Review the SAT Vocabulary List 5 terms, definitions, suffixes, and related forms. Complete the SAT List 5 Extended Definition Assignment (use the format guide sheet). DUE 2/2 [A], 2/3 [B]



IV. Obtain (buy or borrow) a copy of Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury). Read PARTS 1,2, and 3 of the novel. DUE ASAP!


V. Complete the Reading Comprehension (FCAT Explorer) Assignment;  review the assignment sheet for specific tasks. DUE 2/2 [A], 2/3 [B]


VI.Review the Unit 21.6 (Semi-colon) notes (Lesson 1 and 2) and review of the Unit 21.6 (Comma) notes (Lesson 1 and 2).

VII. Write the Fahrenheit 451 Journal Response for Topic #1; follow all writing rules (see prompt sheet) and prepare to discuss the topic in our open forum seminar. DUE 1/31 [A], 2/1 [B]


VIII. Complete any Group Analysis Project related tasks before the Day 2 Prep Session.

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 5) You should review the following items:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

Reading Comprehension Assignment: FCAT Explorer


TASK: Visit www.fcatexplorer.com and use the FCAT Explorer Student Login Information slip (you were given one in class) to login to the site. Please complete ALL assigned reading comprehension assignments before the due date.

WARNING: Points will be deducted if the assignments are completed after the due date. You must avoid collaborating with other students and the work MUST be reflective of your very best.

OBJECTIVE: Students should be able to complete the assigned reading comprehension assignments using their critical thinking skills, their inferential skills, their ability to recall information from passages and articles, their ability to recognize and use words in context, and their ability to synthesize and compare information.

EVALUATION: You will not be evaluated on the completion of the work only; instead, your grade will be based on the percentage of correctly completed items. Students who score below 70% will receive considerable point penalty and individual remediation.

ASSIGNMENTS TO COMPLETE: You will be reading the selections from the following sections: B.C. to A.D., A.D. to 1500, and 1500 to 1800. You are to read the selections carefully, then answer the reading comprehension questions that follow. You are allowed to alternate between the selection and the question so please take your time and choose the best response. Check off (or initial) the items as you complete them.
