TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS*

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog).
AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!

II. Read the Course Curriculum Guide and Course Orientation Notes (Rules and Policies) handouts; sign and obtain a parent signature
on both and return to class. DUE ASAP!!!

III.
Review the summer reading text To Kill a Mockingbird (Lee); prepare to participate in an open forum literary analysis discussion of the work next meeting.

Here are a few notes on this multiple choice assessment:

a. Section 1 is a Multiple Guess section (35 items)
b. Section 2 is a True or False section (5 items)
c. Section 3 is a Matching section (5 items)
d. Section 4 is a Quote Identification section (10 items)

The difficulty of the items on the test will vary; there will be Level 1 (Recall) and Level 3 (Strategic Thinking) type questions (see Depth of Knowledge Level Chart)

V. Work on the SAT List 1 Extended Definition Assignment; follow the assignment format guide sheet.

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1) You should review the following items:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.
