BULLETIN: Typing Rules for the Personal Response Typed Assignment (PLEASE READ!!!)

TYPING RULES: this is for the student seeking to type the most effective commentary…

1. Use this ALL CAPS/underlined/centered heading: PERSONAL RESPONSE #3 FOR FAHRENHEIT 451 (BRADBURY)

2. WARNING: Work must be DOUBLE SPACED (automatic score of ‘2’ if you submit a single spaced paper).

3. WARNING: Use Calibri or Ariel font ONLY!!!!! Use 11-12 point font ONLY!!!!! Margins should be 0.5” all around (i.e. Top, Bottom, Left, and Right). (-5 if not followed)

4. WARNING: This assignment MUST reflect your original, new analysis of the author’s work. If this assignment is typed PLEASE avoid using online sources without the proper MLA citation; if ANY aspect of your paper bears ANY resemblance (intentional or accidental) to some other work you will receive an automatic zero and an integrity referral.

5. WARNING: Your writing MUST be FULLY DEVELOPED. Though I do not want to give you a specific length…you MUST use the appropriate TWO chunk paragraph style and include the writing labels (i.e. TS, CD, CM, CM, CD, CM, CM and CS).

6. WARNING: The overall gist (meaning) or the main idea should be clear and concise. It should be clearly stated near the beginning of the essay and IT MUST BE UNDERLINED.

7. DO NOT USE CONTRACTIONS (such as: can’t, won’t, ain’t, wouldn’t, shouldn’t, etc.)

8. DO NOT USE PERSONAL PRONOUN REFERENCES (such as: I, you, us, we, my, me, our, etc.)

9. Omit phrases like I think, in my opinion, it seems to me, or for one since a subjective response is already recognized as your opinion.

10. Correct use of punctuation. Please refer to notes to avoid point deductions.

11. Correct use of spelling. Please spell-check all text before submitting to avoid point deductions.

12. Refer to the author of the text in the following manner: ‘Ray Bradbury,’ ‘Bradbury,’ or ‘the author.’ DO NOT USE ‘RAY’ OR ‘MR. BRADBURY’…YOU AND THE AUTHOR ARE NOT ON A FIRST NAME BASIS!!!!

13. You must use transitions to link your writing. Remember, this is one complete paragraph; no transition use will result in point deductions.

14. Indicate knowledge of the subject and follow an organizational plan that best attracts the reader’s attention.

15. Your CMs must reflect higher levels of commentary (LEVELS 3 and 4); you are allowed to incorporate examples (LEVEL 2) within your CM to better establish the link between it and the TS.

16. Stick to the assigned main idea and purpose. Do not include any extraneous information that is not relevant to the assignment. If you deviate from the assignment I will deduct points.

17. WARNING: PLEASE CONSULT THE RUBRIC SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR AND EXPECTING. If you do not use the rubric you will not know how to earn an ‘A’ paper. (-5 penalty if it is not attached to your paper.)

18. Submit the assignment to www.turnitin.com.

19. Write the SCP Honor Code on the back of your work and sign and date it. (-5 penalty if it is not included on your paper.)
