HOMEWORK (11/9 [A], 11/10 [B])

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS*

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Organize your notebook. SEE NOTEBOOK STRUCTURE CHART (on blog).
AS INDICATED IN CLASS THIS SHOULD BE PRIORITY #1!

II. Study and review the notes from the Unit Lessons on Prose Literature, Literary Analysis Writing, and Grammar. Prepare for additional writing assignments, analysis assignments, and informal assessments.

III. Complete the Follow-up Assignment for "The Cask of Amontillado" (Poe); see the instructions on the last page of the handout copy given to you during class. THIS ASSIGNMENT IS TYPED.

The Follow-up Assignment is DUE 11/15 [A], 11/16 [B]

IV. Complete any (and all) work related to the Paedeia Discussion Seminar for "Cask" before the next class meeting. Your group was assigned two discussion questions and asked to select two additional questions...these need to be analyzed in the appropriate format before 11/15 [A], 11/16 [B]

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doing whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study/Review SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1, 2, and 3) You should review the following items:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post.

To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards or Extended Definition assignment.

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary terms. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms.

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the rules of grammar. Students will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all rules.

IV. Bring materials/supplies to class; this includes copies of literary works studied, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to show adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.
