HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS (AS OF 9/4 [A], 9/5 [B])

DAILY ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: These are assignments that you should be doning whether we have homework or not. There is a level of expectation that requires you as the student to claim some responsibility for your academic career.

I. Study SAT Vocabulary Terms (LIST 1). You should review the following:

-word definitions
-part(s) of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs)
-related forms (family words)
-synonyms and antonyms
-notes on how to distinguish the varied parts of speech.

In addition, students should prepare to work on additional in-class vocabulary assignments by reviewing words nightly. For test/quiz dates see calendar in class or upcoming dates post. To prepare for the in-class study and tests/quizzes, students are encouraged to create 3x5 study cards. STANDARD [EV1]

II. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the literary elements of prose fiction. Students will be expected to adequate mastery and knowledge of ALL terms. They should employ the same study method that is suggested for the SAT terms. STANDARD [ER2]

III. Students should conduct a nightly/daily review of the elements of grammar. Students will be expected to adequate mastery and knowledge of all elements.

IV. Bring Materials/Supplies to class; this includes textbooks, paper, pens, notebooks, writing journals, etc. (NO EXCEPTIONS)

V. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course orientation notes. You will be expected to have adequate mastery and knowledge of all course policies and procedures.

VI. You should conduct a nightly/daily review of the course standards. You will be expected to have adequate mastery and knowledge of all course standards.

TONIGHT'S ASSIGNMENTS

*NOTE: The following assignments should be completed prior to the next class meeting or by the posted due date. Please read all standards and directions when completing.

I. Read 'The Gift of the Magi' (p. 7 in textbook). Please complete the Paedeia Discussion Questions (#1-10). DUE 9/6 [A], 9/7 [B]

PLEASE READ the following type specifications information!!!!!!!

Your assignment should be typed per these specifications to qualify for a passing score:

1. Typed
2. Times New Roman
3. 12 point font
4. Full discussion commentary responses (at least 5 sentences per response)
5. All responses are typed in complete statements
6. All responses are numbered
7. Heading is centered, underlined, and in ALL CAPS:

8. A space between each full dicsussion commentary
9. Name and honor code written/typed on back
10. Evidence of effort and time spent

*NOTE: If your assignment does not have the above mentioned specifications you will not score higher than a 'D' on the assignment.

II. Organize your notebooks...it has been three weeks since the first day of school. This means you should have had enough time to get things in order.
